Tennessee SNAP-Ed Participant
“A SNAP-Ed educator in Wilson County in central Tennessee implemented a series of nutrition education classes in a faith-based residential facility that supports female survivors of trafficking through trauma-informed, holistic services and evidence-based programs. Classes focused on nutrition, food safety, food resource management, and physical activity. One highlight of SNAP-Ed program was when the class participants got to tour a grocery store and then purchase food for a MyPlate meal sponsored by a supporting partner. A class participant on the tour told the educator how excited she was about being at the grocery store and being able to put into action all the things she had learned in SNAP-Ed class. The participant noted that when picking out items for her meal, she checked unit pricing, looked for whole grain foods, compared name-brands to store brands, and used the store’s sale to make budget-friendly choices.”
