SNAP-Ed Shows College Student Healthy Eating on a Budget
“Being a student at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) comes with a lot of pressure—balancing classes, work, and personal responsibilities, all while trying to stay healthy on a tight budget. Fast food and packaged snacks were often the easiest options, especially with limited time and money.
That changed after attending a SNAP-Ed workshop on campus. The sessions offered simple, practical tips on how to make healthy meals, read nutrition labels, and shop smart with EBT. Recipes were easy, affordable, and designed with student life in mind.
By making small changes—like cooking a few meals a week, choosing healthier snacks, and planning ahead—it became easier to eat well without spending more. The result was more energy, better focus in class, and a greater sense of control over personal health.
Thanks to SNAP-Ed, healthy eating became realistic and sustainable—even on a student budget.“
