SNAP-Ed Provides Hands-On Nutrition Learning for Title I Students
“My students and I have benefitted greatly from the WSU Extension Office in Clallam County. The Staff comes into my classroom and provides gardening and nutrition instruction. Amelia has been such an influence for good to my students. She takes them into the garden and shows them how to not only care for our earth and school garden, but teaches them about nutrition and benefits of a garden. We sample food from our garden and learn the importance of healthy, nutritious organic food. Amelia helps us learn the basics of plants and teaches how to plant, what is a weed and what is a plant, and helps connect us with the earth. Our class has learned about and participated in composting which is vital in sustaining resources. We have learned how to be responsible caretakers of the earth. This outdoor classroom experience is invaluable and has been made available by SNAP-ED funds. This program reinforces our state standards with hands-on and practical learning. Our Title I District does not have the funds or resources to provide this opportunity without the WSU Extension Office and the Staff. Please support SNAP-ED and do not take away this vital learning opportunity from the children and the future of our country.”
