SNAP-Ed Garden Program Wins State Excellence Award
“A SNAP-Ed educator worked in partnership with master gardeners and other Extension staff in Sumner County in central Tennessee to offer continuing nutrition classes and gardening education in a local community center’s afterschool program. The youth gardening program was later awarded the “Statewide Search for Excellence” award.
A master gardeners article announcing the award noted, “This project won in the Youth category and was a team effort between our group and SNAP-Ed’s program…They were able to teach the underserved community at the center about nutrition, exercise and growing their own food. The kids loved to plant and pick and were so excited when they were able to take home veggies from their garden.'”
