More Movement for Seniors
“During SNAP-Ed Direct Education provided by Odessa at the Golden Years Activity Center in Brown County, participants asked to play table volleyball during the lesson on reducing sedentary behavior. Odessa arranged for them to do so and soon they were also playing a volleyball/tennis game with a balloon. The elderly participants shared a lot of laughter and were moving much more than normal during these activities.
When Odessa returned to the site a few weeks later, the activity director announced that the group has incorporated these activities into their normal routine. They are now playing balloon tennis every afternoon and look forward to learning more ways to incorporate activity into their day.
Odessa is now working with the director and the nurse who writes treatment plans for all the attendees to see if this can become a sustainable policy, system and environmental project.”
