Maine Adult Education Program
“Each semester our Adult Education program hosts a Maine SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educator to teach Cooking Matters™ classes to our community. We serve 11 mostly rural Maine towns across Cumberland and Oxford counties, and for many of our residents, this class is a unique opportunity to access and learn healthy eating habits. The Cooking Matters™ class meets in the school kitchen once a week for six weeks where participants learn to plan and create nutritious and affordable menus for themselves and their families, and practice cooking together. Healthy eating can lower medical costs and improve quality of life, and the camaraderie and menu sharing throughout this popular and fun hands-on cooking class reinforces good, affordable shopping and eating habits, and builds community.”
