Florida Students Learn About Plants
“The SNAP-Ed program was a very beneficial program for my students, it provided an hands on approach to learning, knowledge of the plant cycle and nutrition. Students learned the importance of making healthy choices, where their food comes from, how to plant fruits and vegetables, making observations and share their results with classmate. The fact that students were able to take what they had learned and put it into use /action was amazing. Students witnessing and observing their seeds grow into fruits and vegetables, this was the high light of the program. Over all, this program benefited student engagement and gave them a deeper understanding of plants and nutrition.
This program was introduced in a professional learning environment that enhance an understanding of nutrition and plant growth. The students were able to plant seeds and observe their process, they were excited to share their results with each other. Students learned the nutritional values of eating healthy, this was nice to witness. During lunch, they began to pick more fruits and vegetables instead of adding sweets. We were able to pick vegetables and make a vegetable pasta, which real impacted the hands-on- learning. By the end of the program, students gained a deeper understanding of making healthier choices the importance of plant cycle, soil and how nature provides us with good food to eat.”
