Flathead Indian Reservation SNAP-Ed Partner

“We work directly with the SNAP Educators on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana. They go over and above to support local and statewide partners for students to receive fresh, quality food at school and have consistent nutrition education in the classroom. It is these two Educators that launched cooking classes for older teens where they learn how to make healthy recipes using the Instant pot and then get to take one home after finishing the class series. The teens loved it, the impact was huge, and all 6 high schools on the reservation then wanted it. They’re now offering it to all 6 high schools and continue to get grants to be able to hand out Instant pots after each class series.

These SNAP Educators create on-the-ground support systems to center good nutrition and health, from making unique experiences around nutrition education in the classroom at elementary schools, to supporting food service directors to serve fresh, quality food in the school meal programs, to meet a community need that provides cooking classes to older teens.”
