Community Garden Manager
“I manage a kids’ community garden in North Omaha. 40% of the children living in this area food insecure. Our garden is part of The Hope Center for Kids, a non-profit safe after-school and summer program where children and youth can take part in academic support, youth development, faith-based learning and receive a heal meal every day. The food produced in our garden is sent home with the children and shared with a Senior group that meets at The Hope Center.
The SNAP-Ed programs plays an important role in funding the needs of our garden and educating the kids. The dual purpose is significant, in that it helps us provide families with healthy food in the moment, while teaching them how to garden and grow their own food in the future.“
