1st and and 3rd Grade Iowa Students
“I teach Pick A Better Snack lessons to 1st and 3rd grade students at 10 different schools within the Davenport Community School District (Scott County, Iowa). This program teaches children about fruits and vegetables, why they are healthy, how they grow, and different ways to try them.
Access to fresh fruits and vegetables can be difficult for many families of the students I teach. In one lesson, I offered fresh pineapple to the students and the majority of students gave me a thumbs up (they loved it!) and many of them (over half) expressed that they had never tasted it fresh before. Increasing exposure and improving access to fresh fruits and vegetables are just a few of the ways this program is positively impacting the youth and families in this community!”
